Getting There:

Once you have parked, take a short hike and a short swim through the tropical forest. We recommend this trail for people with at least an average physical fitness level. The trail is approximately 2.5 kilometers long and takes around 45 minutes to complete. It’s a moderate hike, so be sure to wear comfortable shoes and bring plenty of water to stay hydrated. The trail is well-marked, and you’ll pass through a beautiful landscape of trees, flowers, and wildlife.
The grand finale of this journey is a swim into the cave where the waterfall cascades down from above. The water current is strong here and a rope is in place for you to pull yourself into the cave if needed. In addition to just watching the stunning waterfall, there is also a natural pool at the base of the waterfall where you can swim and relax. The water is cool and refreshing, making it a perfect spot to cool off after your hike.
Why Is The Water Blue?
As soon as you lay eyes on the Rio Blanco, you’ll be amazed by the beautiful turquoise-blue water that flows downstream. The reason for the water’s unique blue color is due to the high mineral content in the water, specifically calcium carbonate. As the water flows over the rocks, it dissolves the minerals, creating a beautiful blue hue.
